What is Repacking?

Battery repacking is the process of replacing old, worn-out cells inside your e-bike battery case with new brand, high-performance cells. This rejuvenates your battery, extending its life and often improving its performance.

Do I Need a Repack?

  • Your bike turns off unexpectedly while riding
  • The range is low and doesn't seem to last
  • The battery will not accept a charge
  • The battery simply does not turn on

How Much Does a Repack Cost?

The cost of a battery repack depends on the capacity and model of your battery.

Typical range: $700 – $1500

Bosch & Shimano E-Bike Batteries

Unfortunately, Bosch and Shimano e-bike batteries cannot be repacked due to manufacturer restrictions and proprietary designs.

However, we can source brand new Bosch and Shimano batteries at excellent prices.

There are a range of battery models for Bosch and Shimano systems, so it's best to get in touch for accurate pricing and availability.

Dangers of Used Lithium-Ion Batteries

Damage with Age

Over time, lithium-ion batteries can suffer from various forms of damage. Physical impacts such as drops, dents, or pressure can compromise the casing or internal structure. Damaged or perished seals and exposure to humidity may allow moisture to enter, leading to internal corrosion, short circuits, or other forms of degradation. These issues increase the risk of failure and make old batteries more hazardous.

Fire & Thermal Runaway

Old or damaged lithium-ion batteries can overheat, catch fire, or even explode due to internal short circuits or thermal runaway.

Leakage & Toxic Chemicals

Aging batteries may leak hazardous chemicals, posing health and environmental risks if not handled and recycled properly.

Capacity Loss & Unreliability

Used batteries lose capacity and can become unreliable, leading to sudden power loss or device failure at critical moments.

Improper Handling

It is essential to have old lithium-ion batteries assessed, repacked, or recycled by professionals to ensure safety and compliance with regulations.

Always recycle old lithium-ion batteries responsibly. Never dispose of them in household rubbish.

How to Properly Care for Your Lithium Battery

Charging

  • Do not leave the battery charging for more than 12 hours.
  • Avoid fully draining the battery. If it happens, recharge as soon as possible.

Temperature

  • Charge and store between 10-25°C (50-78°F).
  • Keep out of direct sunlight and away from heaters when storing indoors.
  • Avoid using or charging below -20°C (-4°F). Extreme cold shortens battery life.

Storage

  • When storing, do not leave fully charged.
  • Store between 50-75% charge or 2-3 green lights if your battery has an indicator.
